Detailed map of the Ploegsteert Wood area showing in the centre of the map areas modern day visitors would know. Central are the iconic Hyde Park Corner, Prowse Point and Mud Lane as well as the area made famous by the 1914 Christmas Truce.
Just as the name of Wytschaete was corrupted so was Ploegsteert. As every Great War buff will know it comes down in history as Plugstreet. This map is on the scale of 1:10,000 and is corrected to April 1, 1917. The British trench system is given in more than usual detail and the map covers an area, more or less from Messines to Ploegsteert to Warneton and Deulemont. Nearby is ‘Uncomfortable Crescent’.
