Twenty artillery shrapnel balls recovered from Zillebeke area of Flanders
A random selection of artillery shrapnel balls recovered from the Zillebeke area in Flanders on the outskirts of Ypres. These were held in iron shrapnel shells that when on exploding in the air were flung down on the troops below. They were also supposed to cut barbed wire with little success. Some show impact damage. These are poignant pieces of history from nearly 100 years ago. Sold in packs of 20.
